Across three Friday evenings in October, THONK TANK presents Les Fleurs du Mal: The Festival: live performance, dance, sound, music and food-based work by artists from Antwerp and beyond. Each night has its own title and atmosphere, while the room remains open to the movement between works, music and visitors.
The festival is the second part of THONK TANK’s three-part Les Fleurs du Mal project. The first part took the form of a group exhibition during Antwerp Art Weekend. In October, the project moves into work that unfolds through bodies, duration and shared presence. A third part is planned for December.
The three nights
2 October — I’m Afraid of Serious People
Laurence Petrone, Cécile Taylor, Nora Sacré, Nathan Félix-Rivot, Inci Gül Civelekoğlu and The Worst Karaoke. Music by Mariona Puig.
The first night asks what seriousness allows—and what it can conceal. Six live contributions move between sculpture, choreography, voice, costume, action and deliberately imperfect participation, with music by Mariona Puig. Performers and visitors share the room; preparation, changeovers and conversations remain visible as the evening unfolds.
9 October — I’m Afraid of Girls
Anina Müller, Rebecca de Toro, Fyllenia Grigoriou, Nina Marte Wilson, Cécile Taylor and Maria Zandvliet. Soundscape by Max Goedhart; music by Lina Ejdaa.
Performance, dance, food, sound and music unfold across the room on the second night. The artists approach identity, visibility, intimacy and display through movement, performed characters, hospitality and shared duration. A soundscape by Max Goedhart and music by Lina Ejdaa move through the evening.
16 October — I’m Afraid of Americans
Poppy Miller, Vaast Colson, Ria Pacquée and Carly Rae Heathcote. Music by Dora Brams.
The final October night brings dance, interventions, actions and music into a shared space. Work details and any further contributions will be announced as they are confirmed.
