I’m Afraid of Serious People is the first evening of Les Fleurs du Mal: The Festival at THONK TANK.
The evening brings together Laurence Petrone, Cécile Taylor, Nora Sacré, Nathan Félix-Rivot, Inci Gül Civelekoğlu and The Worst Karaoke, with music by Mariona Puig.
The night moves through different kinds of live practices: choreography and embodied performance, material and duration, text and voice, costume and scenography, and deliberately imperfect participation.
I’m Afraid of Serious People takes seriousness itself as something slightly suspect. Seriousness can signal care, conviction and responsibility, but also authority, self-importance and the comfort of knowing exactly what something is for. The evening makes room for practices that are sincere without necessarily behaving seriously.
